Making a soundtrack inspired by tons of classic films, Sufjan Stevens & Angelo De Augustine have created a beautiful masterpiece that’s comforting and surprisingly full of depth with A Beginner’s Mind. The month-long songwriting journey the two shared together truly pays off this time around, as the connection between the two is highly evident in the music––being noticeable by also connecting with audiences.

Their erratic songwriting, from swapping verses and choruses to tossing out chords and lyrics, is a shared experience that was refined to bring out the best of the two. Many listeners have found this to be a welcome return to folk for Stevens, but have also praised De Augustine’s noteworthy contributions on the record as well. As one of our favorite albums of 2021 so far, it comes highly recommended!
